US stock futures pulled back on Wednesday as investors waited to hear from Kevin Warsh, with the Federal Reserve chairman's words closely scrutinized for hints to the odds of interest-rate hikes.
Dow Jones Industrial Average futures (YM=F) slid 0.2% on the heels of another record-high close, while those on S&P 500 (ES=F) also edged down 0.2%. Contracts on the tech-heavy Nasdaq 100 (NQ=F) dropped 0.5%, having jumped Tuesday as chip stocks continued to climb.
Wall Street isn't expecting to get forward guidance on Fed policy from Warsh when he takes part in a panel at the ECB forum in Portugal on Wednesday. But the Fed chief could give clues to how he assesses inflation and the economy, as bets on rate hikes grow.
That and a fresh batch of economic data will set the stage for the June jobs report on Thursday, a day earlier than usual due to the Fourth of July holiday shutdown. June readings on ADP employment changes and Challenger job cuts help paint the labor picture, while updates on US manufacturing shed light on factories.
